Our staff

The goal of our staff and leadership team is to be a “Great Commission Church” with a heart that lifts up Jesus to our community and among the nations.

Jeff Maynard

Jeff Maynard was born in Louisa, Kentucky and his family hails from Martin County Kentucky. While still a child his family moved often as his dad worked on road construction and with Westmoreland Coal Company.  They eventually settled in Big Stone Gap, Va.  After graduating high school, Jeff attended the University of South Carolina where he majored in Music Education.

He married Donna Webb soon after graduating college.  Donna grew up in Columbia and also has a music degree from USC.  Jeff became the band director of West Craven High School in New Bern, NC.  During their years in New Bern, Jeff and Donna became very active at River Bend Baptist Church.  This was a new work and they were discipled by wonderful Christian leaders.

In 1989 Jeff answered the call to full time ministry and moved to Wake Forest, NC where he attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned the master of Divinity with Christian Education degree.  He served as a minister of music and youth.

Upon graduation from seminary Jeff served in Charlotte, NC as a minister of Education and music before accepting a call to pastor Little River Baptist Church in Brevard, NC.

In 2003 Jeff and Donna were appointed IMB Missionaries with the Southern Baptist Convention.  Jeff served 4 years as church planter/developer among the amaXhosa people group.  He trained pastors, started a Bible Institute and saw many churches started.

In 2007, Jeff accepted to call to pastor Marble Springs Baptist church in Cherokee County, NC  and served there for four years before accepting the call to become Newfound Baptist’s pastor.  Jeff finds his call to Newfound to be centered on the great need and potential for reaching the community for Christ.  He has focused on making disciples, lifting up Jesus and developing a church filled with the unity and love of Christ found through a Holy Spirit filled church.

Jeff has done revivals and guest speaking in Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Missouri, West Virginia, South Carolina, Vermont and Pennsylvania.

In addition to His four years in South Africa, Jeff has preached and served on short term mission trips to the Philippines, Thailand, and Romania.

Jeff and Donna have three children.  Stephen, Emily and Elizabeth.

Jonathan Stafford

Jonathan was born in a small town in northern Kentucky called Maysville to a family where both parents honored the Lord and so raised their children to do the same.  As his hometown pastor told him about the love of Christ in the pastor’s office on a regular Sunday morning, Jonathan accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at 11 years old. Four years later, he surrendered the call to youth ministry under the leadership of his own youth pastor who made a great impact for Christ in Jonathan’s life.

After high school, Jonathan attended community college for two years, while staying very active at May’s Lick Baptist Church.  The Lord then led him to move to Virginia to attend Liberty University for a degree in Religion: Youth Ministry Studies.  During his years at Liberty, he served as a campus prayer leader, a spiritual life director for his peers as well as an active AWANA leader for Leesville Road Baptist Church. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2012, and in the same year began at Liberty University Theological Seminary for a Master’s of Arts in Pastoral Counseling which he completed in 2014. During this time in seminary, Jonathan married his then fiance, Bethany, and began his career as a youth pastor on staff at Kedron Baptist Church in Gladys, VA.

In April 2014 the Lord called Jonathan to Newfound Baptist Church. Since coming to Newfound Jonathan and Bethany have been blessed to meet and work with such wonderful and giving people.  Jonathan looks forward to getting to know more students in the Leicester community and working together with their families to bring honor and glory to the ONLY ONE who is worthy, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

ASSOC. PASTOR of music & discipleship
Gene Roberts

Gene Roberts was born in Ft. Gordon, Georgia, and soon relocated with his Godly parents, to Columbia, South Carolina. He came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of twelve, having attended New Testament Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina regularly with his family for years.

Gene met his future wife, Angela, in high school, as together they picked up friends to attend a weekly Bible study for several years. Following Angela’s graduation from University of South Carolina, and Gene’s graduation from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, they relocated to Columbia and became active in Park Street Baptist Church, and Three Rivers Baptist Church. Gene worked as controller for a large private school, while Angela worked as a Chemist. On a snowy evening in 1983, God confirmed His call to Gene and Angela to full-time vocational Christian ministry. With five month old son Josh nestled in his carseat, they relocated to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1984. Gene graduated with a Master’s in Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1989.

Over the last thirty years, Gene and Angela have served Southern Baptist Churches in Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Gene has led and organized many community events, including Messiah Singalongs, praise and worship events, and community and revival crusade choirs. As he has sought to be better trained for ministry, he is a current Doctoral of Ministry student at North Greenville University. Gene and Angela have three sons, Joshua (Christa), Benjamin (Maria), and Timothy (Tiffany). In June of 2016, they rejoiced at the arrival of their first grandchild, Autumn, sweet daughter of Tim and Tiffany.

In August of 2016, Gene accepted a call to serve at Newfound as Associate Pastor for Worship and Discipleship. His heart’s desire and life’s goal is to serve faithfully, discipling believers in their walk through worship and Bible study, and reaching out to the community through events and personal evangelism.
